Our client Kelly at Playdates Augusta envisioned a space that would be both beautiful and safe.

She asked us to design a place where children could play freely while parents relaxed nearby, feeling at ease. We designed a total of 415 sq ft of main play space and an additional 87 sq ft dedicated to crawlers, creating two distinct zones tailored to different age groups.

The crawlers’ area, designed for babies up to 18 months, offers a cosy and soft environment with gentle play elements and comfortable blocks for parents to sit on while supervising. The main play area, aimed at confident walkers up to 6 years, focuses on independent play, allowing little ones to explore without constant parental assistance while ensuring complete safety.

A key part of the brief was visibility — parents should always be able to see their children — so the space layout and materials were carefully considered to maintain open sightlines. Along the back wall, a mezzanine creates an elevated play experience that connects seamlessly with the rest of the area, offering excitement without compromising supervision. Access to the mezzanine is designed to be easy and age-appropriate, using soft climbing hills suitable even for a two-year-old. To keep the design airy and refined, we opted for a combination of plexiglass panels and wooden slats in place of traditional mesh, ensuring visibility and a warm aesthetic. The result is a thoughtfully balanced play space that feels safe, inspiring, and inviting .
